Questions
What athletes ask us first.
If yours isn’t here, email support@getchalkitup.com and a person will answer.
The basics
- What is Chalk It Up?
Chalk It Up is a coaching app for functional fitness athletes. The coach inside is Kip, an AI coach built on a real coach’s methodology, who briefs you before you train, debriefs you after, and checks in between.
- Will Kip conflict with what my coach programs?
No. Kip never overrides your coach’s programming. That’s rule one: what your coach has said always wins.
Kip isn’t instead of the coach you trust. Kip is the other 23 hours.
- Do I need a coach to use Chalk It Up?
No. Chalk It Up works whether you train with a coach, follow your gym’s programming, or write your own. If you do have a coach, Kip works underneath what they’ve programmed instead of around it.
How it’s different
- How is this different from an app that generates workouts?
A generator answers what to train. Kip answers how to attack it, given your numbers, your patterns, and what your coach has already programmed.
Your plan tells you what. Kip tells you how. For you, today.
- Isn’t this just ChatGPT for training?
ChatGPT knows plenty about you by now. It doesn’t know your training.
Kip holds your actual numbers, so a stale max gets caught instead of repeated. Kip learns what works for you specifically: which cues land, where you tend to unravel, what your good days have in common.
And Kip coaches from a methodology a real coach authored, then defers to the coach who programs your training.
- Does Kip only answer when I ask something?
No. A chatbot waits for questions. A coach notices things. Kip checks in after a rough week, and nudges you before the workout that’s been beating you.
How it works
- What do athletes actually ask Kip?
Most of it is the in-between. How to attack tomorrow’s workout. What to load when your max is six months old. What to do with a hotel gym and one kettlebell. Whether today is a push or a pull-back. What the lesson was from the workout you just finished. Where to restart after a week away.
- What does Kip actually remember?
Kip keeps your training story: your goals, your numbers, the patterns you fall into, the lessons that came out of the hard days. Every conversation builds on the last.
Not a chat log. A story.

For coaches
- I coach athletes. What does this mean for my programming?
Kip extends your programming. Never overwrites it. Kip’s first rule is deference: what you’ve said always wins.
We’re also working with a small number of coaches as design partners, to shape what extending your coaching should look like at gym level.
